Less than 15 mA
Reliable power consumption data is essential for choosing appropriate power supplies and designing efficient power distribution for pedalboards.
The manufacturer states that The Amp Detonator draws 12 mA of current. Naturally, we need to verify this by measuring our own unit.
Our measurement reveals that this particular unit draws about 14.1 mA from an external regulated 9-volt PSU (the Boss PSA-230S). While higher than the stated value, it’s still relatively low, even for a battery-powered device. Internally, the unit operates on a dual ±9 V supply (or maybe +9 V / around -8 V in practice), which is typical for Orange products. This dual supply is achieved using an LT1054 switched-capacitor voltage converter (a ‘charge pump’).
