The Orange Amp Detonator is an excellent general-purpose tool: in addition to functioning as an ABY switcher, it can also be used as a buffer with a single output or as a galvanic ground isolator for one output without using the ABY switching functions (in which case it can also serve as a mute switch). The input impedance is approximately 1 MΩ, and the output impedance for both outputs is under 2.2 kΩ. Internally, the device operates on a dual ±9 V power supply—or the negative voltage is actually slightly less than 9 V, maybe about 8 V—and the headroom is significantly greater than with a single-sided 9 V power supply.
Do you hear hum inside your head?
This device works perfectly in both stereo and wet-dry setups with two guitar amps—simply use the unit as a ground isolator for one of the amp inputs to instantly eliminate ground loop hum. The phase switch is a must-have for real-world amp and speaker setups. The non-isolated A output preserves the phase at the input.
